Navigating the treacherous waters of workplace law has never been more difficult as in these tough economic times. However, there are proactive steps, creative solutions, and time-tested best practices that business owners, leaders of organizations, managers, and supervisors can implement to effectively manage employees while avoiding legal liability.
One of the most important and useful tools is an Employee Handbook. An updated handbook is essential in light of legal issues and risks that employers today face, including amendments to the Americans with Disabilities Act, (ADA); the new regulations for the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA); the recently enacted Ledbetter Fair Pay Act; the anticipated passage of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA); changes in COBRA associated with the economic stimulus; the proposed Healthy Families Act (mini-FMLA); a greater focus on caregiver discrimination; an explosion of electronic discovery obligations; and age claims attendant to downsizing and reductions in force (RIF).
This webinar will help you:
-
Understand an employer's rights and responsibilities attendant to these laws.
-
We will discuss, analyze, and explore how to create--or update-- your handbook so it is both user-friendly and legally compliant and to better meet the threats of retaliation.
-
Untangle the web of wage and hour claims and collective actions.
-
Withstand a harrowing variety of harassment claims.
